Research Behind Accountable
A Look Into How Accountable Was Made

Literature Review and Generative Study
Initially, my team decided to do some research into different productivity apps and productivity in general to get a better understanding of the productivity field and how our app could differentiate from others to best serve users' needs. We also conducted a home tour and four observational studies paired with interviews to understand what users were looking for in a productivity app.

From the information we gathered, we had issues determining what type of product people wanted. Our participants in the study had a variety of ways to keep on task, including making sure all their supplies were readily available, turning off their phones, and writing down a to-do list. After much deliberation, we decided to tackle the hurdle a lot of our participants seemed to have trouble with: keeping on task when completing a medium- to long-term goals. We decided to combine the ideas of task management and encouragement through friendships.

Usability Study
We conducted two usability studies with a low-fi prototype made with paper and medium-fi prototype made with Figma and Invision. Through this process, we worked out several kinks with our intial app, such as how would users indicate that they have finished a task and what types of interactions would happen between friends on the app.
Field Study
After creating a hi-fi prototype of our app, using React Native and Expo, we conducted a field study. We recruited several friends of ours to test out the app with a friend and got overall good results. While our task building function of the application was well built, we needed to add more ways for friends to interact on the application such as a consequences feature and a badging feature. Here is a link to our paper that discusses our study and results further.
